Ingredients
2/3 cup vegetable shortening
1/2 cup brown sugar, packed
1 tsp. cinnamon
2 tsp. ground ginger
1/4 ground cloves
pinch of salt
3/4 cup molasses
1 egg
3 cups flour
1 tsp. baking powder
1/2 tsp. baking soda

Directions
- In a large bowl, cream together shortening, sugar and spices.
- Add egg and mix.
- Add molasses and mix.
- In a small bowl, combine flour, baking powder and baking soda.
- Add dry mixture to the wet mixture and stir until fully combined.
- Cover and chill in the refrigerator for 1 hour.
- Preheat oven to 375F and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
- Cut dough into quarters and roll to 1/8" thickness, or slightly thicker on a lightly floured surface.
- Cut dough with cookie cutters or a knife and transfer to the prepared baking sheet.
- Baker for 8-10 minutes and cool on a wire rack.
- Serve plain or decorated with icing.
